It’s August, and you know what that means: the CrossFit Games are here! From the Open through Regionals, it’s been an exciting Games season and it’s all comes down to this week. Will Fraser, Davidsdottir or CrossFit Mayhem have repeat wins? Or will we see some underdogs seize the top spots? That’s part of all the excitement, as we watch the world’s fittest athletes go head-to-head in the Super Bowl of fitness competitions! Tradewinds has a group of athletes participating in our first ever CrossFit Games Fantasy Leaguge… who’s team will reign victorious?! Only one long weekend away will tell! Athlete of the Month
Our Athlete of the Month for August is Jackie Emmart. Jackie started coming to Tradewinds back in December 2016 and has been a positive presence in classes and online since day 1. She’s been relentless in her fitness journey, having just recently celebrated her 100th class! Not only that, in our nutrition challenge back in May, she logged the most points individually than anyone else in the competition. She was also part of the winning team at the Tradewinds Summer Internal Throwdown. She very quickly became a constant fixture in the community and we’re extremely lucky to have her.
Athlete Interview CFT: Where are you from? Jackie: I was born and raised in MD, about 20 minutes west of Annapolis. I moved to MA for my undergrad and even though that was 17 years ago, I’ll take a crab over lobster any day of the week.
CFT: How long have you been doing CrossFit? Jackie: My first class was mid-Dec 2016, so for almost eight months. I signed up as a birthday gift to myself..

What good is being in a seaside community if we don’t take advantage of all it has to offer? With that in mind, we’ve started a new tradition this summer where we host a monthly workout on the beach! We’ve done this a few times already, and if you’ve been in those classes you know it’s a blast! Come check it out and join the fun before the season is over!
Ready for your next PR? Looking to up your MURPH anti? Join us during ion gym for our monthly MURPH event. Take on any version of MURPH you’d like, or just come in and work on any other skill to help improve your overall skill.
It’s back, the CrossFit Team Series. This year the series will be done as partners, either male/female, male/male, or female/female pairs. Coupled with the Team Series, we will host our second internal team challenge with two Friday Night Light Events at 7pm on September 22nd and September 29th. Spots are limited, so sign up today!

Join Tradewinds athlete, Mike Press, as he introduces us all to a one-of-a-kind surfing experience. Due to the nature of, well, Nature, it’s tough to predict when the conditions are right for a good surf session. We’re aiming at a mid-to late-August/early September weekend. Caren Hunter is a Tradewinds original athlete and former collegiate rower who has been a member of the CrossFit Tradewinds community since before its formal inception. She was previously named athlete of the month for September 2016. She has participated in many Tradewinds events and programs, and most recently won the Tradewinds June 2017 Burpee Challenge with over 2500 burpee completed during the month of June. Caren also recently participated in the Tradewinds 30-Day Transformation Challenge, and saw some fantastic results. Check out her full spotlight!
In just 15 secs we can run a comprehensive measurement and breakdown of your muscle-to-fat analysis. The report will highlight your muscle & fat in both pounds & percentages. Additionally it shows you the actual breakdown in each limb & your trunk, highlighting any potential imbalances in your body, while also comparing you to the average person with the same gender & height. Lastly, the report will give you a specific recommended goal on whether you should lose or gain muscle and lose or gain fat to bring you into the average recommended range.

The CFT fitfam spent some time outside of the gym and hung out at Coughlin Park for the first Park & Picnic day! Christian brought some delicious treats and the Hunter Family brought viking chess. Definitely a great time was had by all and we look forward to our next local outdoor adventure!
Tradewinds Goes Hiking
A group of awesome Tradewinds athletes set out on a summer adventure up to Franconia, New Hampshire this past weekeend, where they took on a 9 mile hike, taking their fitness to over 4000′. Click the photot below to check out the video from their awesome adventure!
